Celebrating 16 Foodservices Heroes in the second year of the pandemic

Jennifer Minichiello, director of dining services, Brentwood School is One of 16 Foodservices Heroes recognized by Food Management in the second year of the pandemic

Los Angeles, CA,  May 11, 2021

Nominator: James Pond, communications manager, CulinArt Group

Reason for Nomination: “When Brentwood School in Los Angeles undertook the task of feeding homeless veterans encamped in a nearby hospital parking lot, Jennifer Minichiello rose to the challenge. She commandeered the production of 1,000 meals per week to be delivered to veterans sheltering in place on local VA campus and another 1,000 meals per week donated to the local Meals on Wheels chapter. Jennifer also assists in packaging meals to be delivered to the homes of the veterans’ families. This just scratches the surface of Jennifer’s commitment to helping others. Throughout her career, Jennifer has maintained a give-back approach to providing food services by volunteering and serving the homeless community. As life would have it, Jennifer also endured a serious medical issue with a family member during the pandemic. As a testament to her fortitude, Jennifer never wavered throughout the ordeal and continues to put forth a monumental effort with the support of her team.

‘Our school’s kitchen staff is currently a tiny crew led by Jennifer,’ says Gennifer Yoshimaru, assistant head of school, ‘but they are “cooking with gas,” figuratively and literally. Their daily efforts on behalf of our school to bring healthy and delicious sustenance to those who cannot provide it for themselves is making a significant difference.’”

What our clients are saying

“I wanted to recognize the individuals at the Valley Forge Site Café who have been supporting us throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic.  I have been onsite at least a few days every week since June 2020 and I noticed that the team continued to provide quality and timely service for breakfast and lunch.  They effectively packaged the food to maintain CDC guidelines. Thank you!  ”

“This has been a year of unprecedented uncertainty, but through it all, Denee, chef Darby, Samantha, and the whole CulinArt team, provided the best dining experience the school has had in my thirteen year tenure.  It was an absolute pleasure to work with them, and I can't wait for next year when the craziness of COVID brings everyone back into the dining hall for meals. We look forward to working with Denee, Chef Darby, Samantha, and the rest of the CulinArt team again next year.”

“Thank you for including me today in the food waste demonstration/[chef competition] and flattering me with the role of “judge.” I will proudly don the [Stop Food Waste Day] apron the next time I plan an “event” in our own kitchen. I think this is a very worthwhile cause and the statistics you read off are staggering. They, alone, can intimidate a home chef, let alone be the “driver’ for a professional one.”

“I wanted to let you know that for this entire school year I have been so well fed! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE all the diversity of salad choices we have each day and the amazing entrees.  My favorites are the carnitas, chili, curry, and cajun chicken days.  I am so grateful for all the care that goes into the food because I know I do not eat enough vegetables or balanced meals without you and your crew's work.  Thank you so much!  You take such great care of us!!”

“We were totally impressed by the presentation and care in which these new team members were brought into the CulinArt family. So happy we made the decision to choose CulinArt Group.”

“I have really appreciated the wonderful cafeteria staff we have via Culinart and the thoughtful meals they provide our kids. They're truly one in a million. I have also really appreciated the dedication Parker and CulinArt share to sustainability and green practices on campus. I am so thankful that Parker has chosen CulinArt, a company that shares Parker values, and that they took the time and effort at such a hard time to make sure that Parker is always on the forefront of green practices and safety - never compromising.”

“Thanks so much for a great week of food here at SCH to start off 2021. Everything has been fantastic. The kids were loving the Chinese food and boxes today. The Moo Shu Pork was amazing. Great work!”

“Dear Chef Anthony: Hi! It’s the kids from Room 223 [and their teacher, Mrs. Smith]. We thank you for providing us with such great snacks and lunches! We know how hard you and your staff work. We have been talking as a class and we came up with some of our favorite snacks. We really love the brownies, chocolate chip cookies, and Scooby snacks. The soft pretzel bits are really good, too. Thank you again! ”

“You know that I haven't been home (India) for a long time now.  I miss my mama, I miss the food, I miss the smells, I miss the people. Starting yesterday, I started to smell my mama's kitchen at Parker.  I KNEW something Indian was brewing; I could smell the garam masala!  Thank you for the delicious tofu curry.  It made my belly and soul happy.”

“Even though we see challenges every day, each one of you rises to the occasion and makes it seem so easy. I cannot express how impressive it is to see you all work in such a fashion. You are true professionals.”
